Lola & Buck Linville Scholarship @ Main Street UMC
On April 24, 1998, the family of Lola and Buck Linville, Jane Linville Joyner, Ann Linville Bailey, and Walter S. Linville, Jr., established a scholarship fund for Main Street UMC. The following is an excerpt from their letter advising us of this scholarship:
We are pleased to establish a scholarship fund for the Main Street United Methodist Church to be known as the Lola and Buck Linville Scholarship. This scholarship and the funds we are now contributing are given in loving memory of Lola and Buck Linville. In affirmation of the kindness, patience, thoughtfulness and giving spirit that they illustrated in their lifetimes, we create this scholarship as a living memorial.
It is our desire that this scholarship be utilized to assist deserving students engaged in either teaching or science-related studies. This gift is to be the property of the Main Street United Methodist Church of Kernersville, which will be directed by its Scholarship Committee in selecting qualified recipients on an annual basis.
It has been the privilege of the Linville Scholarship Committee each year to receive applications from eligible students, thoroughly review these applications, and our decision has always been unanimous. Most years this decision is very difficult. The consensus has been, as well expressed by our former Business Manager, Tom Vaughan, we truly wish we had more scholarships to award. It is our hope that anyone wishing to give a memorial to a loved one would seriously consider a scholarship to a deserving graduate.
